Näin vanhan ja uuden vuoden tienoilla minulla on jo vuosikausia ollut
tapana muistella edellistä vuotta ja tehdä uuden vuoden suunnitelmia ja
lupauksia. Tänäkin vuonna teen sen tänne blogiin. Viime vuoden postaus
löytyy täältä.
Muistelutapani on yleensä standardi 40 kysymystä viime vuodesta.
Tänäkin vuonna vastaan niihin englanniksi. Kuvituksena tämän
vuoden huippuhetkiä. Vietän uutta vuotta tänään matkustamalla Lontoosta Jyväskylään. Saas nähdä ehditäänkö Suomen puolelle ennen kuin vuosi vaihtuu. Toivon kaikille erinomaista päivää,
yötä ja mahtavaa uutta vuotta 2017!
Summing up my year of 2016, once again in English. I do this every year, just like Charlie Brooker, except you know - not funny...
1. What did you do in 2016 that you’d never done before?
Defended a PhD Thesis. I guess that was my biggest achievement of the year, can't really deny that.
2. Did you keep you New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I made some promises yes. List you can see in here. I'll post tomorrow about how I think I did in them. Once again, some of the promises were kept, some of them were not.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I am in the age where my friends keep on having babies around me, but no one in the immediate family.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes! Carrie Fisher, David Bowie, George Michael... Well... No one in the immediate family.
5. What countries did you visit?
UK, China, Sweden, Germany, Latvia... Maybe that was it! Five countries...! Well, I've been to China, Sweden and Germany twice... Why do I keep going to the same places, one could ask... And well, I guess work is the answer. I guess my travels this year were rather of the boring kind. Except my excellent Christmas party trip to Riga... That's a whole new territory there.
6. What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
I would like to have more power to cut things out of my life that give me little pleasure. I should learn how to listen to myself and stop doing things that I am doing for the 'duty'. Or no apparent reason. Who cares... No one does...
7. What date from 2016 will remain attached upon your memory, and why?
16.4.2016 The date of my defence.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
See above.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not getting Tops to poo on the toilet...? At least it felt like it. But maybe the real failure has been not recognising my own limits of tolerance and running myself to the very edge at the end of the year - specifically work wise.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I have been ill a lot this Autumn, in November, but nothing major.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I think all the plane tickets this year were probably the money best spent.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Definitely my colleague and friend, Juuli's. There's been many others of course, but her in particular. And another person that has done a great deal is M, the special needs helper person that my son has currently got. She's just amazing and has made so much progress with him.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My department's personnel management's.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Travelling, rent, the usual. Oh and to Karonkka... But that party was worth it!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
People and my party, I guess. Both came together in the spring. It was a big moment in my life for sure.
16. What song will always remind you of 2016?
Well, this time the Eurovision winner does not. However, the Russian entry "You are my only one" does. But I'm going to say "Parvekkeella" by Ida Paul.
Songs that are also in my December playlist:
"Hakuammuntaa" ja "Laukauksia pimeään" by Ida Paul
"Kuolevainen" by Johanna Kurkela
"Vapaa" by Kaija Koo
"Pyydä multa anteeks kunnolla" by Antti Tuisku
"Kohta sataa" by Pete Parkkonen
"Että mitähän vittua" by Sanni
"Ohikiitävää" by Juha Tapio
"Let her go" by Passenger
"Miracle" by Samra (ESC2016)
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
I. happier or sadder? Depends on the times, but I guess about the same
II. thinner or fatter? Fatter. I've really gone off sports for the last two months. But I guess after Christmas one always feels like that.
III. richer or poorer? Richer I guess.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Well at least my answer is not 'potty training' this year - I feel I've done a lot of it! I'm going to say that I wish I would have gone to bed earlier more.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Spend time with issues that I don't enjoy or that cause me distress.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
With my son, husband, mother-in-law, her man and my brother-in-law in Colchester. It is UK Christmas turn. Read´the post here.
22. Did you fall in love in 2016?
Well yes I did. It's a good feeling, so why not?
24. What was your favorite tv programme?
Game of Thrones, The Affair, West world, Halt and Catch Fire.... oh and Galavant! And Crazy Ex-Girlfriend!
25. Do you hate anyone now that you did not hate this time last year?
Border line question - hate is a strong word, so no.
26. What was the best book you read?
The Reason I Jump.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Ida Paul - Thank you Hilkka!
28. What did you want and get?
A PhD.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I'd have to say Gods of Egypt. Honestly. Watch and be amazed.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 35 and I spent the day in the London Aquarium with my son and had some champagne in London with husband and our dear friend Andy. Read the blog post here.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
The fact that my son would talk. Last two year's answers write this year's blog:)
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2016?
More leather I think this year. And some goth into it. No really It's about the same as always, pencil skirts/jeans plus top.
34. What kept you sane?
Therapist? My friends... Sports... There's many reasons, but having enough sleep is the biggest, so I'd say drugs that we give to our son for sleeping.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Well, I'm going to go on a tribute and say the second year in a row: Carrie Fisher. We miss you dearly.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Brexit... As it is so much to do with my family. But of course there's also other difficult issues going on all around us, specifically in America...
37. Who did you miss?
I miss people constantly. You can't ever be with all the people you love all of the time. But I guess I missed particularly those that I had very little time with.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
J and A. There were many, many others that are amazing too, but these two really turned my life around.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2016:
If someone is acting odd or agressive towards you - it is probably that they ar reflecting something truly painful from their past - it is not necessarily your fault that it is happening - you might be paying the debt of someone else they remember doing something similar, maybe with different intentions... So don't panic. Breathe and take a step back. That's usually the best way of going at it. Sleep on it. Think of ways to be sympathetic toward the other person's issues. They are not really meant to hurt you, but to protect them.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year
"Thunder and lightning - It's getting exciting!"
Thank you for this year of 2016 everyone!
