 On Saturday night we gathered in Hotel Scandic Bromma for an evening meal. / Lauantaina Brommassa istuttiin iltaa hotellissa.

 We had the whole cabinet for ourselves. / Meille oli varattu koko kabinetti.

 Bromma Branch Master Leif Kekkonius opened the evening with a toast./ Ruoka oli hyvää ja Bromman Branch Master Leif Kekkonius avasi illan tervetuliaismaljalla. 

 Luckily we came equipped. / Onneksi olimme varustautuneet omalla lipulla.

 Then came Anders Sensei's small speech. / Seuraavana Ruotsin Federaation presidentti nosti maljan.

 Small kenshis had their own area to hang out in. /Poikasilla oli oma leikkipaikka.

The Athmosphere was very friendly./ Tunnelma oli varsin rattoisa.

 Part of a Japanese Martial Arts culture is of course the exchange of gifts. / Japanilaisen itsepuolustuslajin traditioihin kuuluu toki vaihtaa paljon lahjoja.

 Gift line ceremony might actually last for an hour or more... Queue up! / Lahjajonotus saattaa kestää hyvin tunninkin, kun puolin ja toisin ihmetellään paketteja ja kirjoitellaan niihin nimiä.

 German boys adopted by Jyväskylä Branch. / Saksalaiset pojat adoptoituivat meidän Branchiin.

 Lots of fun discussions, laughter and culture exhange - that's what a good SK party is made of. / Paljon hyviä keskusteluja, naurua ja kulttuurivaihtoa, siitäpä on hyvät SK bileet tehty.

 Later in the evening less people, more intensive depaits. / Loppuillasta tyypillisesti porukka pienenee ja pidot paranee.

 Timo sensei just invented a new SK shop. It sells 'Take away Bruises' - two in the price of one. / Timo sensei on tässä juuri kehittänyt uuden SK kaupan, joka myy 'Take-away mustelmia' kaksi yhden hinnalla.

 Urs and I compared our experiences of living in China. / Ursin kanssa vaihdettiin Kiina-tarinoita.

 Sensei table has gotten to the candy. / Sensei-pöydässä on päästy suklaisiin asti.

 What happens when you put both Portugese and French-Swedish Branch Masters into the same end of the table??? Wouldn't we liked to have heard the stories... /Mitä tapahtuu kun laitetaan Portugalilainen ja Ranskalais-ruotsalainen BM samaan pöydän päähän? Olisinpa ollut kärpäsenä näissä jutuissa.

 Overall, excellent night - great friends, some good food. Well done, Bromma! / Kaiken kaikkiaan hieno ilta, hyviä ystäviä ja hyvää ruokaa, ei kai sitä muuta ihminen tarvii lauantai-illalle. Hienoa Bromma!

 Third and Final Gasshuku day opened into the samu./ Kolmas ja viimeinen Gasshukupäivä aloiteltiin  samuamalla.

 3Dan and above (GroupA) went straight to Goho with Osawa sensei while 1kyu to 2nd dan(GroupB) looked into the wonderful world of pain pressure points.  / Kolmannesta daneista ylöspäin (RyhmäA) aloittivat kovilla tekniikoilla, kun taas Ikkyusta 2 daneihin paneutuivat kipu(un)pisteisiin.

 Makino Sensei was underlining that one should always give feedback to one's partner - Rather than stubbornly getting frustrated when the partner does not find the right place or angle. Not only in pressure points, but also in techniques as well as in life. / Makino sensei opetti harjoitteluparille annettavan palautteen tärkeydestä. On parempi antaa toiselle vinkkejä, että mikä sattuu, kuin että itsepintaisesti jäpittää, kun toinen ei osu oikeaan kohtaan tai saa oikeaa linjaa aikaiseksi. Tämä pätee muuten myös elämänopetuksena, ei pelkästään tekniikkojen suhteen. Aina on parempi keskustella kuin arvailla.

 In this Gasshuku, I was noticing a special feeling of friendship among the kenshis. Maybe because the group was a good size: 76 kenshis in total from 9 countries: Sweden, Finland, Russia, Germany, Great Brittain, Italy, Portugal, US, Japan. / Tällä leirillä olin huomaavinani myös aika paljon ystävystymistä - ehkä osaanottajamäärä oli sopivan kokoinen, eli 76 kenshiä 9 maasta: Ruotsista, Suomesta, Venäjältä, Saksasta, Iso-Britanniasta, Italiasta, Portugalista, Amerikasta ja Japanista.

 Looking back at the pictures, it's obvious that people had a lot of fun. This could only be achieved with a great teachers and the kind of athmosphere that they were able to set for us. / Kun katselen näitä kuvia niin on aika selvää, että leirillä oli hauskaa. Tällaista ilmapiiriä ei saada aikaiseksi ilman todella asiantuntevia ja mukavia senseitä:)

 Three year old did quite amazingly well in this company, thanks to the wide hall and safe environment. / Myös kolmevuotias pärjäsi tässä seurassa kiitettävästi, sen mahdollisti iso ja turvallinen halli, jossa oli vain vähän vaaranpaikkoja.

 

Makino Sensei's lecture of the day was something he had been asked to do: Tell stories of his times with Kaiso. This was one of the most funny and most interesting philosophy sessions that I've been to for a while. Unfortunately I was preoccupied by minding Top Fish,  which meant that I didn't hear some of the best ones, but luckily we had a lot of time in the car towards our ferry, so my family told me all the stories that I only heard half of. Those stories for example gave insight to So Doshin's character, which was apparently in the Dojo, very strict, but outside he was very friendly. / Makino sensei päivän epistolaksi kertoi meille tarinoita Shoriji Kempon perustajasta, jonka kanssa hän reenaili aikoinaan.Siitäpä paljastui yksi hauskimmista ja mielenkiintoisimmista filosofioista aikoihin! Vaikka olinkin itse samaan aikaan lapsenvahdissa, sain sukulaisilta tarinaselostukset kotimatkalla autossa. Näissä tarinoissa pureuduttiin mm. siihen, millainen oli Doshin So:n luonne - Dojolla äärimmäisen ankara, mutta ulkopuolella ystävällinen ja hauska.

 Yoshi Karahashi, Peninsula Branch's Branch Master was an excellent and clear interpreter. /  Yoshi Karahashi, Peninsula Branchin Branch Master oli erinomainen ja selkokielinen tulkki.

In the afternoon, we still had some time to train in groups. Even though three days had created its fair share of Shorinji Kempo bruises. /Iltapäivällä ehdimme vielä reenailla ryhmissä, vaikka kolme päivää reeniä olivatkin taanneet sen, että itsekullakin oli kroppa täynnä mustelmia ja ruhjeita. 

 On this Gasshuku, I got to establish some new friendships, as well as get to know some of the old friends better. Makino Sensei also said that Shorinji Kempo is also the connection from one person to another and that he was pleased to see that here. It doesn't matter where you are, SK is something we all share. / Tällä leirillä ehdin tutustua uusiin ystäviin, mutta myös opin vanhoista kavereista uusia juttuja. Makino Sensei alleviivasi myös, että Shorinji Kempo on nimenomaan se yhteys, yhdeltä kenshiltä toiselle ja hän piti siitä, miten tämä näkyi leirin fiiliksissä. Ei ole väliä, missä päin maailmaa tavataan, Shorinji Kempo on se jaettu asia.

 Gasshuku organisers had improved two very important things which made all the difference to an average camp: 1) During the philosophy, we didn't sit on the floor. This meant no achy backs and jammed legs. / Leirin järjestelijät olivat panostaneet kahteen pieneen, mutta keskeiseen asiaan, joiden kautta tämä leiri oli erityisen onnistunut. 1) Filosofian aikana saimme istua katsomossa. Ei selkä/jalkajumeja, hallelujah.

The other thing was for us drug addicts: 2) Free coffee! Hallelujah!/ Toinen asia oli tämä: 2) Kahvit!

Rest of the afternoon was spent with Juho. / Loppuiltapäivä kuluikin sitten Juhon parissa.

 Overall this weekend, I learned a lot. Let's see if I have the time, I'll do some philosopical reflection later this week in the blog. / Kaiken kaikkiaan tällä leirillä tuli opittua paljon. Jos satun löytämään aikaa, taidan reflektoida vielä jonkun postauksen verran myöhemmin tällä viikolla.

 And there it came - time to say goodbyes. Gasshuku hangover is guaranteed, tomorrow we shall be doing gassho while entering offices...  Alright, on day 2, the morning was just as much fun as the previous day, or even a bit more than that... /Okei, kakkospäivänä näköjään oli aamusta ihan yhtä hauskaa kuin ekanakin. Ellei jopa hauskempaa.

 What could be better to start a day with than a good old fashioned pile of people? Come to study Shorinji Kempo, there we lie on top of each other.  / Mikä voisikaan olla ihanampaa kuin kunnon ihmiskasa? Tule siis Kempoon, pääset kunnon bodykontaktiin.

Sitten oli aika siistiytyä Kihoniin. / Then we cleaned up for Kihon.

 Today was a good day of getting expressions out of the people's faces with the camera. Some really intensive moments going on like this one. / Tänään juttelin ammattilaiskuvaajan kanssa siitä, miten tärkeää on saada kiinni ihmisten intensiteetistä ja fiiliksestä. Tänään sellaiselle oli paljon otollisia tilanteita tarjolla.

Yleisimpiä ongelmia Kihonissa oli se, että jodan-chudan tasot ovat aivan liian korkealla. /The most common problems in Kihon for this lot was that there's still problems in the levels of the punches - many are way too high.

Antero demonstrates a common juho problem: Bending from one's back instead of one's legs./ Antero tässä demonstroi toisen perusongelman: Taitetaan selästä, ei jaloista.

 However, the tips and teachings were well received by this audience of kenshi - we were eager to learn. / Tämä joukko kenshejä otti opetukset vastaan mielellään, leirillä vallitsi hyvä, rakentava ilmapiiri.

 Gyakugote training/harjoituksia

 Osawa Sensei, 7.Dan vietti myös tänään aikaa A Groupin kanssa. /Osawa Sensei, 7th dan was also teaching in the A group today.

If the Maki line is S shape, Dori is a twisted C./ Jos Maki-linja on S-muotoinen, Dori on ikäänkuin kulmikas C-muoto.

 In the A group pain shared with friends continued. /A groupissa ystävien kesken jaettu tuska jatkui.

 B group did the do activities. / B ryhmässä taas dot vedettiin päälle.

Tällä leirillä on ennen kaikkea treenattu. Laskin, että 14h aktiivista treeniaikaa ja siitä oli laskettu pois jo filosofiat ja ruokatauot. Normaalilla leirillä on ehkä 6-8h, eli ainakin jokainen on saanut liikkua sydämensä pohjalta. / To the main credit of this gasshuku, I would say is that we got to train a lot. I calculated 14 hours of actual training time, and philosophy and lunch had already been subtracted from that. Normal camp would be maybe 6-8h. This has gotten a lot of positive feedback from the kenshis.   

 Makino sensei also said that once we will start doing Goho techniques, our faces lighten up and one can see the enjoyment in our faces. /Makino sensei sanoi myös, että kun alamme tehdä Goho tekniikkaa, ihmisten naamalta alkaa näkyä ilo, kiinnostuneisuus ja aktiivisuus.

 So far Makino sensei is the only sensei that I've heard saying: "Well done, you are doing this so well that now I'm learning it from you. I have nothing to add." Pedagogically he is the smartest I've met - wouldn't you rather learn from a person who at 80 can admit that he still has got things to learn (rather than let's say from someone preeching about his own excellence) - With Makino sensei, he really knows how to get people relate to him and that's a rare gift in any line of teaching, certainly something I will be thinking many days to come after this. /Toistaiseksi hän on ainoa sensei, jonka olen kuullut sanovan "Nyt minä opin teiltä. Osaatte nämä asiat niin hyvin, että minulla ei ole huomautettavaa." Aivan uskomattoman viisas mies ja mikä nöyryys hänen opetustasollaan. Kuuntelisitko sinä mielummin ihmistä, joka uskaltaa tunnustaa, että hänellä on vielä 8kymppisenä opittavaa muilta vaiko ihmistä, joka ylentää itseään johonkin samaistumisen tason ulkopuolelle. Hänen opetustyylinsä oli todella jotain, mitä minä aion pistää korvan taakse.
