Meillä on Access4All-projektin konsortion kanssa ollut kunnia vierailla Bukarestin yliopistolla nyt kolme päivää jo. /
Access4all consortium has had the privilage to visit University of Bucharest this week.
Tämä oli sinänsä mukava työmatka, että konferenssin lomassa ehdimme käydä katselemassa vähän nähtävyyksiäkin. / It was nice to be able to actually see some sights also even though we were working rather intensively for three days.
Bucharestia ei turhaan sanota pikkupariisiksi. / Bucharest has been called 'Little Paris' for a good reason.

Bucharestin keskusta on muuttumassa hipsterimmäksi nuorten hengailupaikaksi. /
The centre has been turning into a hipster place for youngsters to hangout.
Mutta myös traditionaalisia paikkoja löytyy. /
But you can also see the traditional Romania present.
Ruoka oli monella tapaa yksinkertaista, mutta hyvää: Makkaraa, juustoa, tomaattia, kurkkua. Ja illalla polentaa lihan tai kalan kanssa. Allaoleva karppi sen sijaan ei ollut kovin vakuuttavaa...
/ Romanian food is made of basic incredients: Sausage, cheese, tomato, cucumber, meat and of course Polenta!
Vaikutteita oli myös välimeren keittiöstä: Viinilehtikääryleitä ja kreikkalaista salaattia. /
There was also influence from the mediterranean kitchen - stuffed vineleaves and greek salad.

In the middle of the city was a channel.
Romanialaiset tuntuvat olevan erittäin ylpeitä siitä, että heidät on hyväksytty EU:hun. EU:n lippuja oli pitkin kaupunkia. /
Romanians seem really proud to have been accepted to the EU. There is EU flags everywhere in the city.
Romanialaiset myös rakastavat autojaan - niitä on jokapuolella. He ajavat jopa hullummin kuin Kiinassa ja tupla- ja triplaparkkeeraaminen oli enemmän sääntö kuin poikkeus. /
Romanians also love their cars... They drive mental and they double and triple park at every street. It's even more chaotic traffic than China to be honest.
Katukuvassa näkyy myös Romanialaisten tapa käsitellä politiikkaa eli mielenosoitukset ovat tavallisia. /
You can see from the streets of Bucharest, also the attitude of Romanians toward politics. Graffiti and demonstrations everywhere...
Bukarest on vastakohtien kaupunki. /
Bucharest is a city of contrast.
Mutta kerrassaan vierailun arvoinen. /
But absolutely worth the visit.
Pysähdyttiin maanantaina juomaan tuoreista hedelmistä puristettuja detox-mehuja. /
We stopped for a detox freshly squeeced juice on Monday in the Vincent Van Gogh cafe(?!?)...
Paikallinen valuutta LEI. Tämä on noin 25euron seteli. /
The local currency is Lei and this is about 25euros.
Yleisesti hintataso on matala - paitsi tietty vanhan kaupungin keskustassa turisteille oli ehkä Suomen hinnat - enemmän Jyväskylän kuin Helsingin tosin. /
Overall the prices are low, except in the most touristic areas in the middle of the old town. There it was like Jyväskylä prices.
Taide oli pitkälti kopioitua. /

On the last night we went out with girls to eat in this traditional Romanian restaurant with live music. Warm recommendations. I'm sure the ones that follow my insta stories have seen some clips...
Viimeiseksi muttei vähäisimmäksi - tässä alla kohoaa maailman toiseksi suurin rakennus. Kyllä! Siis Ceaucescun linna on Pentagonin jälkeen suurin rakennus maailmassa. Tämä on Euroopan suurin rakennus myös... Hotellimme sattui sijaitsemaan palatsin vieressä, joten kävelimme siitä ohi joka päivä. Varsinainen hehtaarihalli... Oltais menty sisään, mutta kierros olisi ymmärrettävästi kestänyt niin monta tuntia, että päätimme tutustua muihin kohteisiin mieluummin. Kaikenkaikkiaan Romaniasta jäi varsin positiivinen fiilis. Ystävällistä, avuliasta kansaa ja turistit eivät vielä ole pilanneet kaikkea... Kun ottaa junan mustan meren rannalle niin tämä on varteenotettava lomakohde...
/Last but not least, The Ceaucescu's palace (below) is the second biggest building in the world (after the pentagon) and the biggest in Europe... Our hotel was near by so we walked passed it every night. Pretty humbling soviet effect walking in its shadow.
Overall I got a great image of Romania. It's definitely worth exploring to the countryside and I was unhappy that we did not have time to visit Transylvania of course. Even though I brought home some Draquila tasters of course... If you are looking for an affordable holiday destination where tourists have not yet gotten wild - this might just be it. But have to act fast... It won't be like this forever.
