Yokota's - Shorinji Kempo Restaurant

Tadotsussa käynnin yhteydessä on aivan pakko vierailla tässä ravintolassa. /When ever in Tadotsu, this place is a must!

Kyseessä on tietenkin Yokotan Okonomiyakiravintola / It's of course Yokota's Okonomiyaki restaurant.

Tai tuttavallisemmin, Shorinji Kemporavintola. / Or better known as the Shorinji Kempo restaurant:)

Yokotassa on myös tilattava tämä käsittämättömän herkullinen annos - Doshin So Kana. / Also one must order this unbelievably delicious dish - The Doshin So Chicken.

Siihen syrjään voi sitten tilata vähän sitä itse okonomiyakia. / As a side dish, I recommend some Okonomiyaki...

Kimchi Nuudelit ja Gyozat vielä mahtuu napaan kun on tarpeeksi syömäreitä. / Also order some kimchi noodles and gyoza on the side, I'm sure you'll be needing all that food to tone down the possible effects of alcohol consumption.

Itseasiassa melkein mikä tahansa listalta on täällä hyvää, joten ei ole niin väliä mitä tilaa./Although it doesn't matter that much after the chicken, because everything here is really good.

Yokota itse on aikoinaan reenannut kempoa. / Yokota himself has practised Shorinji Kempo as you can see.

Keittiössä häärii myös hänen vaimonsa. / In the restaurant you will also meet his wife.

Kempoleirien aikaan voit olla varma, että tupa on täynnä kenshejä. / During Gasshukus, you can be sure that the restaurant is full of kenshis.

Mieleenpainuvimmat jättävät jälkensä seinille. / The most memoriable kenshis leave their mark on the walls.

Tai ehkä pienen palan kotimaataan. / Or a small piece of their homeland.

Tähän voit luottaa: Paikalla on aina hyviä tyyppejä. / You can count on this: There will always be great company around.

Ravintolassa on myös asiakkaille avoin wlan, mikä Tadotsussa on jo aika kova juttu. Siispä kun olet ensin syönyt niin voit kertoa kavereillesi ympäri maailmaa, miten hienossa paikassa olet:) / In the restaurant, there is a customer wlan, which in Tadotsu is a pretty big deal. So once you've eaten, you can tell your friends around the world, how great place you had your dinner in.

Ja sitten kun kello on kaksi aamulla ja Yokota vihdoin heittää teidät pellolle, tapahtuu mitä yllättävimpiä käänteitä, kuten tämä mysteerinen tapaus. /And when it's two in the morning and Yokota has finally kicked you out, something completely random will happen.

Ruotsin federaation presidentti (6.Dan) tarjoilee sinulle Yokotan vaimon taksimatkalle mukaan antamia mehujäitä! / Swedish federation president (6.Dan) will serve you popsicles with a swiss army knife - it does not get more absurd than this, let me tell you. Yokota's wife thought we needed them for our taxi trip... bless her!

Ainakin se on varmaa, että ilta Yokotan ravintolassa ei unohdu koskaan. / One thing is for sure, a night at Yokota's will be rememberable.

Tadotsu

 Tuo pieni kalastajakylä keskellä ei-mitään: Tadotsu. Tässä kylässä tapaa ehkä eniten ulkomaalaisia koko Shikokulla. Ainakin Shorinji Kempon kesä- ja talvileirien aikaan. Itse kylä on varsin yksinkertainen: Pari katua, pari kauppaa ja muutamia dojoja. / The small village of Tadotsu is the place where Doshin So first started a dojo of Shorinji Kempo, so therefore there is way more foreigners lurking around than in rest of Shikoku. At least during the summer and the winter camps of Hombu.

 Suoraan asemaa vastapäätä sijaitsee kylän ainoa varsinainen hotelli, eli Toyota hotelli, josta löytyy muutama sängyllinenkin huone ja jonka katolla voi pestä pukunsa kolikkopesukoneessa. /Straight accross the street from the station resides the only 'real' hotel in town, the Toyota hotel, which even has a couple of rooms with beds (instead of tatami) if that's the kind of thing you are looking for. You can also wash your dogi on the roof floor after sweating a day in Hombu.

 Tadotsun kadut on nopeasti kävelty läpi. / The streets of Tadotsu are fast seen.

 Siellä on myös useita kanavia, jotka menevät läpi keskustan. / The landscape of the centre also has a channel go through it.

 Olemme Kirsin kanssa kävelleet Tadotsussa toki paljonkin - Toytahotellilta/asemalta Hombuun ja takaisin. / Kirsi and I have walked these routes a lot: From the hotel to hombu and back.

 Sen lisäksi tietenkin tulee osata kävellä Yokotaan, Shorinji Kempo-ravintolaan. /And of course to Yokota's, the Shorinji Kempo restaurant.

 Sinne päätyminen on joka kerta hieman tajunnanvirranvaraista. / How we manage to find it is always a mystery to me.

 Joka kulmassa mietitään, että näyttääkö tää tutulta suunnalta, pitäisikö kääntyä oikeaan vai vasempaan. / At every corner we think: Is this the correct way or should we turn...

 ¨Tadotsussa minkä tahansa ravintolan tunnistaa muuten siitä, että sen edessä on vilkkuva 'poliisi'valo.  Että jos joku näyttää ulkoapäin vaan jonkun kodilta niin vilkkuvalojen kautta voi löytää syötävää illallakin. / In Tadotsu you can recognise any restaurant by the flickering police light infront. It might look like someone's livingroom, but it's a restaurant. This is a good way to find something to eat after dark in a very dark town.

 Noin näppituntumalta reitti asemalta yokotaan:, kävele noin kilometri suoraan asemalta, ylitä kanava yhden kerran. Sitten kaarra oikeallepäin ja ylitä kanava toisen kerran. / Simple guide from the station to Yokota's (so I can read this next time I am in hombu to remind myself): walk straight for about 1km from the station, over the channel once. Then turn to right and go with the curve, over the channel again. Then turn left on about the second street after the channel. Then walk about 200m and you are there.

 Kyllä se sieltä sitten löytyy. / Or just follow Kenshi that might be wondering in at the same time.

 Tadotsuhan hiljenee yleensä aika nopeasti, eikä kaduilla enää liiku ketään. / Because after dark, there's pretty much no one on the roads.

Nämä kuvat ovat ihan vikalta illalta Shikokulla, kun olimme matkalla Yokotaan. Perille päästiin, onnella tai taidolla - ken tietää. Sisäinen happomoku varmaan johdatti okonomiyakin jäljille. / These pictures are from our last night in Shikoku, on our way to Yokota's. We made it, was it luck or skill, who knows. Perhaps our inner happomoku lead us to the Okonomiyaki.

Shorinji Kempo International Study Session in Hombu 2013, Day 3

 Ja sitten päästään vihdoin tämän reportaasisarjan viimeiseen postiin, eli kansainvälisen Study session kolmanteen päivään, joka alkoi ryhmäkuvalla. / Finally the last post of the International Study Session in Hombu this August. The day begun with a group picture.

 3rd Dans and aboveille olikin sitten luvassa randoria aamun ratoksi. / To spice up the morning of 3rd dans and above: Unyoho.

 Kawashima sensei eläytyy tuomarin rooliin / Kawashima Sensei played the role of the judge.

 Susha - Kosha - Kamaite - Hajime!

 Tuomarin on oltava valppaana monenlaisen varalta: On pysyttävä parin vauhdissa, mutta ei liian lähellä. / The judge must be alert at what happens in the randori: Follow closely, but don't get in the way.

 Jos pari ajautuu vaikeaan tilanteeseen, esimerkiksi heittoon, se tulee pysäyttää ennen kuin tulee vaurioita. (Ei saa antaa heittää) / If the pair runs into a difficult situation like in this case a throw, the judge must stop it firmly before it ends up badly.

 Massahysteeriset tuomariharjoitukset / One might think this is a cult, but it's actually just group excersise of the judge's role.

 Kawashima sensei kertoi meille myös randorin kulta-ajoista, kun Aosaka sensei ja hän olivat yliopistossa. Valitettavasti siihen aikoihin ei käytetty kunnollisia suojia ja randorit päättyivät joskus toisen osapuolen kuolemaan, mikä johti randorin kilpailumuotona lopettamiseen. Sittemmin yliopistoihin nämä kisat on palautettu muutama vuosi sitten, mutta otteluita seurataan erittäin tarkasti ja kilpailijat käyttävät myös vartalo- käsi- ja pääsuojuksia, jotka on erityisesti rakennettu tähän tarkoitukseen. / Kawashima sensei treated us with some stories of the golden age of randori, when Aosaka sensei was in the university (they had graduated from the same university by chance). Unfortunately in some occasions the competitions ended with someone dieing which was the reason why randori was stopped as a competition. The main reason back then was the lack of armor and head gear. For years there was no competitions, but since the tsunami, the competitions were reintroduced only for universities, with careful supervision and special armor, to raise funds for special charity situations.

 Randorireenien jälkeen oli luvassa vielä yhdet vapaavalintaiset reenit ennen päätösseremonioita, mutta niistä minulla ei ole montaa kuvaa, sillä valitsin embureenit, joka Kirsin kanssa otettiin reenaamisen kannalta. Pareilla oli noin puoli tuntia aikaa oppia kokonainen 6-pätkäinen embu, joka sitten näytettiin koko salille. Siinpä olikin sitten tekemistä:) / After the randori training there was one more session before the end, which was a choise of four different types of trainings - I chose embu training with Kirsi and therefore I have got no pictures from that really - 30minutes to train 6 parts of a new embu and then presenting it to the crowd... More than enough to do without the camera hanging on my arm!
Sitten alettiinkin kokoontua loppuseremonioihin. / Then it was time to start the routine of seiza-anza and closing ceremony.

 Aila Sensei kävi pokkaamassa monen muun lailla tentti (5.Danin) todistuksensa. Onneksi olkoon Aila! / Aila sensei was the only Finn in the examinations this time, and received her 5th dan certificate from Sosai.

 Sen sijaan ruotsalaisia vitosdaneja ropisi sitten enemmän. Yllä ystävämme Alex sensei. Carlos pokkasi myös omansa (alla) / Above: Alex sensei gets his certificate and below Carlos's turn.

 Uusi(Seelantilainen) ystäväni Stephen ja 4.Dan. / My new (zealandian - I know, I'm a little bit too excited to have friends from New Zealand, right...) friend Stephen picks his fourth dan.

 Hombussa loppuseremonian jälkeen on traditionaalista ottaa tarpeellinen määrä kaverikuvia. Tässä serkuskuva. / After the closing ceremony in Hombu, one must take a huge amount of friends-groups and whatnot pics.. Here is a cousins together picture.

 Toiseksi tärkein lopettelurituaali on käyntikorttien & lahjusten jako ja fb-kontaktien vaihto. Tässä aussipojat New Castlesta. / Second most important closing ritual is to exhange your fb contacts as well as to get rid of all the rest of the presents that you still haven't gotten rid of. These guys were our first night buddies from the Bon Odori bus (Aussie friends from New Castle)

 

 Saksalaisia ystäviä. / German friends.

 Näin käy kun sanoo porukalle, että te pönötätte kuvassa, ettekö vois tehdä jotain rentoo, josta näkis että ootte oikeesti kavereita... / This is what happens when you say to people that your posing is really stiff, show me if you are actually friends or not...

 Italialaisistakin onnistuin nappaamaan kuvan. Tässä postauksessa on varmaan eniten feisbuukkavereita yhdessä ikinä... / I was able to sneak even a picture of the italians. Most fb friends in one blog post together.

Ja toinen hieno kuvauspaikka on tietysti hombun piha./ Another photo-op is of course in the courtyard.

 Kaiken kaikkiaan kolmen päivän reenit hombussa hurahtivat ohi nopeasti. Tuntuu, että paljon tuli opittua, mutta tietysti enemmänkin olisi voinut olla reenejä. Tietysti leirit ovat aina kompromisseja, mutta tältä viikolta tuntuu jääneen käteen paljon nimenomaan tuomarointiin ja arviointiin liittyviä asioita, sekä muutama perustekniikkaan liittyvä hyvä vinkki, esim. gyakugoten varatekniikoissa. / Overall three day training went past really quickly. Personally I could have trained more, Kirsi not so much (which supports my theory that 2nd dans had it most hard), but I understand that trainings are always compromises. At least I feel like I learned a lot this week - mainly on judging and holding examinations, but also about embus and also some kihon - gyakugote related little tricks.

 Aika hombussa on niin nopeasti ohi, että päälimmäiseksi mieleen jää kuitenkin aate, että milloin pääsis takas. / Time in hombu passes by always so fast that at least I was thinking: When can I return...

 Tomasille sen sijaan jäi päälimmäisenä mieleen tämä: / Tomas on the other hand was mainly left with this idea: I'm the king of the world?

 Käytiin Kirsin kanssa vielä moikkaamassa Hidemiä, joka on vuosien aikana auttanut Suomen federaatiota todella paljon. / We went to say hellos and goodbyes to Hidemi san who has over the years been a true friend and help to Finnish federation - thank you!

 Ja sitten olikin aika viimeisille gasshoille. / Time to make our last Gasshos.

 Ja sen pituinen se visiitti kansainväliselle study sessiolle elokuussa 2013. / And there ended our time with the International Study Session in Hombu, in August 2013.
