Today is one of the highlight moments of my job as once again a dear friend of mine is defending her PhD thesis "The Internet as a creator of a criminal mind and child vulnerabilities in cyber grooming of children".
The defence takes place in the old Seminarium building at our
University of Jyväskylä campus. Her opponent is professor Jean-Louis van Gelder from Max Planck Institut für ausländisches und internationales Strafrecht, Germany and the custos of course our very own cyber security rockstar, Mikko Siponen.
Ever since I met Manja something like
3,5 years ago, I knew two things: That she would take on the world and
that we would be friends for life.
I am so proud of your work. Not many
people would move to the edge of the world to accomplish their mission -
not many would boldly seek evidence which is so classified that you
need to be locked away to even read the documents. Not many would tackle
a topic with such passion and rigor - I look at you now and I know this
is only the beginning. The world will truly be a better place because
of your work. I won't have to wish you good luck today. I know you will
rock it! Congratulations!
/Tänään
on vuorossa jälleen jännittävä päivä, kun ystäväni Manja Nikolovska
väittelee tohtoriksi lasten nettihoukuttelusta. Manja on tutkinut
internetin vaikutusta rikollisen mielen kehittymiseen ja etenkin lasten
alttiutta joutua nettihoukuttelun kohteeksi.
