Wednesday begun with a taxi ride to the Beijing airport. In the taxi, Jups who was still slightly suffering from Jetlag, told us how to solve the immigration problems of Finland... He had been up since 5am saving the world:) We then took the flight over beautiful mountains to my home in China, Xi'an. I was so happy to be home that I felt I was going to burst of joy. My friend Yin Meng picked us up from the airport and took us to Yang Yang International, where we live. This time we were staying in the 29th floor hotel instead of the normal 15th floor though. Liang Ni and Qiao Zhilin met us for lunch at the 'Paintings in the ceeling' restaurant - I've missed the food almost as much as the people.
After lunch, I left Jups and Eetu to work in the hotel while I walked to Xiao Zhai to do some shopping and see the DVD man. After going through piles of DVDs for about half an hour, I went home with a carrier bag full - but didn't, for some reason, but the 'Levottomat 3' which would have been there for sale... I then stopped by the local temple on my way back to Yang Yang Guo Ji, where I picked up the men folk, on our way to the office on the 10th floor of the Xi'an Jiaotong School of Finance and Economics. Aka Prof Li's lab. Girls of the research group were almost fainting with the sight of handsome foreigner and made Eetu blush a lot while waiting for Prof Li to arrive from his meeting. When he finally did though, we agreed on the plans of the 2 years of SINOFINN Capstone project and the meeting itself for a bigger success than I think any of us would have imagined. We have a real chance to give the curricula a reform, which is amazing. Chinese keep on surprising me again and again with their warmheartedness and welcoming attitudes. And the fact that things just happen. And people want to do things. Often in Finland, there seems to be people who just oppose change, whereas in China, it is expected and embraced.
The evening ended with a wonderful dinner banquet, prof Li style. Lots of eating, toasting and laughter. It was so good to see these people again. My friends in China <3 This is my 5th year with this research group and I am proud to call these people my Chinese family. Good to be back home, even for two days.
