Disney-land reissullani tein pikkuvisiitin tähtien sodan näyttelyyn, joka oli siis rakennettu Millenium Falconin näköiseksi… Tai niin sanottiin brosyyrissä, mutta noh, en ollut ehkä aivan samaa mieltä asiasta.
Star Wars -näyttelyssä oli kuitenkin tunnelmaa: Musiikkia ja propseja esillä uusista ja vanhoista elokuvista.
Minä olen Star Wars-sukupolvea. En sitä, joka näki ne alkuperäiset elokuvateattereissa, mutta sitä, joka katsoi niitä teini-ikäisenä uudestaan ja uudestaan. 90-luvulla.
Niistä elokuvista tuntui löytyvän vastaukset kaikkiin elämän filosofisiin kysymyksiin. Koska voimahan meillä on kaikilla mukana. Aina.
Star Wars oli minulle ennen kaikkea suuri seikkailuelokuva, jossa samaistuin molempiin Skywalkerien sisaruksista. Kenenkään neuvot eivät olleet yhtä hyödyllisiä elämälle kuin Yodan.

Osasin yhteen aikaan kaikki alkuperäiset elokuvat sanasta sanaan ulkoa. Osaisin varmaan vieläkin. Mihin tahansa hetkeen pystyin vastaamaan Star Wars-lainauksella. Serkuttareni Kirsin kanssa pelasimme Star Wars-korttipeliä teini-iässä pari vuotta niin intensiivisesti, että 90-luvulla todella elin pelkkää Tähtien sotaa. Se on edelleen minulle kovin henkilökohtainen ja niinpä esimerkiksi viime vuonna Force Awekensin ensi-ilta oli yksi odotetuinpia loppuvuoden tapahtumia…
Nykyajan lapsilla, nuorilla tai aikuisilla, jotka katsovat näitä elokuvia ensi kertaa nyt 2010-luvulla, ei minusta ole mitään mahdollisuuksia ymmärtää niiden hienoutta. Koska on ollut Lord of the Ringsit ja Harry Potterit ja you name it - efektit ovat olleet jotain aivan muuta kuin seitkyt-kahdeksankyt-lukujen vaihteessa ja tarinat samoin. Se on sääli, mutta
Tuntui tavallaan hassulta piipahtaa Star Wars -universumissa keskellä Disneylandia. Ihan kuin se ei jotenkin kuuluisi sinne. Mutta oli kuitenkin mukava käydä moikkaamassa erittäin ‘In Character’ Darth Vaderia ja R2D2:ta.
Henkilökunta oli pukeutunut Rebel piloteiksi ja huiteli paikanpäällä Kylo Ren Lightsabereiden kanssa. En kiellä lirauttaneeni pienet kyyneleetkin mininäytöksessä, jossa esitettiin ‘Path of the Jedi’ minielokuva (otteita kaikista toistaiseksi nähdyistä elokuvista).
Olen ollut Star Wars näyttelyissä aiemminkin, esim Lontoossa ja Helsingissä. Tämä saa minulta kuitenkin 2/5 tähteä. Parempikin olisi voinut olla. Ja pelkästään Star Warsin takia en lähtisi Disneylandiin. Star Wars parkia odotellessa… Ootteko te käyneet katsastamassa Star Wars näyttelyitä ja mitä piditte?
/On my trip to the Disneyland in Shanghai, I went to see the Star Wars exhibition. Of course. By far this was the most personal experience of the park for me. I can be called a long line hard core Star Wars fan. There was a time when I knew all the lines to the original trilogy - I probably still do. I am not old enough to have seen them in the cinema, but I saw them in the nineties, when I was a kid. Back then, before the internet, before Lord of the Films movies and so on… I think kids now a days don’t stand a chance of understanding what Star Wars really is about. The magic of it was something else back then. It was so personal and you could find all the answers to all the questions from the universe in it. Of course, force is with us, always. And has there ever been any more useful advice in the world except those by yoda?

So yes this visit for me was personal and I did feel a little bit let down by the so called ‘Millennium Falcon shaped’ exhibition, which included a photo op with R2-D2 and much in character Darth Vader, as well as a mini film called ‘Path of the Jedi’ made of the episodes shown so far… I think they could have done better. There was some items on display like Han Solo carbonate and Boba Fett, but seriously, I would have hoped for more. I’ve seen Star Wars exhibitions in London and Helsinki before and somehow I think they left me with more content… I suppose all kids now a days could want is a plastic Kylo Ren Lightsaber… I mean, really… Have you been to Star Wars exhibitions and what did you think about them…? I think even Worldcons have more interesting Star Wars programme than this one…
