Lizards, Skeletons and Eathquakes

 Vierailin Iraklionissa luonnontieteellisessä museossa. / In Heraklion, we visited the Natural History Museum.

 Siellä oli meneillään dinosaurusnäyttely / The main Exhibition was on Dinosaurs.

 He olivat ottaneet hieman erilaisen lähestymistavan - vaikkei Kreetalta varsinaisesti ollutkaan dinoluita löytynyt, he olivat kuitenkin päättäneet tehdä replica- luurankoja ihan mukavan määrän vierailijoiden iloksi. / This museum had not gotten stuck on 'these are the real bones found on the area', but really done many replicas to bring in audiences. Is it ever real these days anyways?

 Loput näyttelystä olikin hieman tutumpaa kamaa. / Rest of the exhibition was more familiar from Finnish small museums...

 Mutta sitten... /But then...

 Tajusin, et hei nää tyypit on elossa! Löytyipä sieltä pieni suomalainen tyttö kyselemään äidiltään, että miks toi toinen lisko yrittää 'pudottaa' ton toisen tosta. /But then I realised these were indeed alive. And of course there was a finnish girl asking her mother, why does this Lizard want to 'drop' the other one from the rock...

 Joo, mulla on vaan likainen mielikuvitus, kertoi saksalainen seuralaiseni. / My German colleague pointed out that I have a dirty imagination apparently...

Kilpparit oli kans oikeita, samoin tämä juuri takkinsa vaihtanut käärmes. / Turtles were also alive and so was this snake who had just dropped his jacket.

Ruoka-aikaan heille oli tarjolla salaattia ja paprikaa. /Lunch is salad with pepper!

Käärmeille annettiin hiiriä lounaaksi, mutta siitä mulla ei oo kuvaa. /Snake's lunch was a mouse, but I have no picture of this event.

Osa luurangoista oli todella vaikuttavia / Some of the saurus were very impressive indeed.

Sikiö / Fetus

Kaiken kaikkiaan pieni, mutta hyvin kompakti museo, josta saa paljon irti myös tablettien ja kännyköiden välityksellä. / This small museum feels larger than it is and you can get load of extra out of it by tablets and iPhones.

Hän oli iso. / He was big.

Kyllähän näitä katsellessa ajattelee, että on se sattumaa, että ihmiset ovat maan herroja nyt. / Looking at these, one starts to think that it's a complete chance that humans are in charge of the world now.

Lopuksi päästiin huvittelemaan vielä, eli maanjäristyssimulaattoriin. Kreetan vieressä maa nimittäin liikkuu jatkuvasti ja tuollaisia n. 5 rihterin järistyksiä on usein. / At the end we got a nice ride in the earthquake simulator. Crete is in a spot in the world where earthquakes are quite common.

Museovierailun lopuksi pääsimme kuuntelemaan syytä, miksi minä olin tällä reissulla. / The museum visit ended to a lecture by Dr. Agueda Gras-Velazques.

Agueda jutteli meille Scientixistä, eli projektista, jonka tehtävänä on auttaa muita luonnontieteen alan oppimateriaaliprojekteja työssään. / Agueda gave a presentation on Scientix(2), a project which will help the other Science-related EU projects in their tasks.
